Statement on departure of Keith Edelman
Posted Thursday 01st May 2008
Keiths legacy to Arsenal is the Emirates Stadium. It was a tremendous feat to deliver the stadium on time and budget.
Football clubs need stability to succeed and we welcome the appointment of Ken Friar as Acting Managing Director. Ken is Arsenal through and through and no-one has a better knowledge of how Arsenal works. The club is in good hands with Ken.
The Arsenal Board, and particularly Danny Fiszman and Peter Hill-Wood, recognise the important role the Trust plays in bringing together supporters and shareholders in Arsenal. We will put to them our views on role required from the next Managing Director.
The decision on the long-term replacement for Keith is vital to the future of the Club as we look to capitalise on the potential offered by the new stadium and Arsene Wengers young team.
Running Arsenal requires three key skills; delivering commercial success; building and maintaining relationships with supporters, shareholders, the community and the media, and having influence in footballs corridors of power. To find all these abilities in one individual is rare but all are essential as Arsenal seek to build upon its current promising and exciting situation”.
Note:
The Arsenal Supporters’ Trust is meeting with Ken Friar on Monday 12 May
The Arsenal Supporters’ Trust has 700 members and its members represent approximately 3% of the club’s equity.
