October AST meeting to review Arsene’s football v financial performance
Monday 21st October 2013 - 18:30
The October meeting of the AST will take place on Monday 21 October 2013. Please note the change of location for this meeting which will take place at the Grange Hotel Holborn, 50-60 Southampton Row, WC1B 4AR, which is on the corner of Southampton Row and Theobalds Rd, about 2 minutes walk from Holborn tube station.
The main part of the meeting will involve an in-depth financial analysis of Arsenal in the Wenger era by Nick Harris of Sportingintelligence.com (@sportingintel on Twitter). Nick will consider Wengers reign broken into three eras, which he descibes as:
1) Transformative Arsenal – how Arsene Wenger changed English football, won two Doubles and produced the Invincibles
2) Arsenal in the shadow of the ‘Big Money’ era – how Abramovich then latterly the Glazers and Mansour caught up and overtook Arsenal with cash
3) Arsenal revived – why the prudence of the stadium move years aligned with the constraints of FFP on ‘smaller’ rivals, should and will pay dividends.
These eras will be explored with particular reference to transfer spending and wages; and examine whether Arsenal did better, worse or just as expected given their economic resources, compared to key rivals.
Detailed materials will be presented at the meeting and available to members. All members are welcome and we look forward to seeing you there.
